The Casting of Frank Stone - Cedar Hills

It was tremendously fun bringing the town of Cedar Hills and the nearby Cedar Steel Mill to life in The Casting of Frank Stone. Situated in the Pacific Northwest, the town - as seen in the game's prologue in 1963 - was built around the Cedar Steel Mill where Frank Stone worked and murdered his victims. By the time players explored the town further in 1980, they saw it decimated by the mill's closure. Stores are boarded up, some have been completely demolished, and most of the population has either left or relocated to the new housing estates constructed on the other side of the town.

A lot of effort was put into trying to nail the feel of the two time periods - 1963 and 1980 - primarily with vehicles, advertising, fashion and colour tone and it's a credit to the whole of the art team how much this shines through.

It's incredibly rewarding to see a project evolve from early concepts to the final image on-screen and in the player's hands. We stayed quite true to the initial vision for many of the environments for Cedar Hills and the Cedar Steel Mill as these comparisons show!

Special thanks must go to Damian Bajowski for his awesome concepts, Manuel Capitani for his character work on Frank Stone, Tommy Hallam, Albert Calvo, Matthew Lamb and Martin Clemie for their brilliant environments and Yashwant Dutta for his beautiful lighting. Check out their profiles below!
